Stud Beef Handlers Camp

On Thursday 16th of January, We got to camp at 2pm and waited for Erica from Glenstrae to come with her highland cattle. We helped Erica unload things and her cattle and I helped Erica to do work with Andie Skye. There were 2 other highland cattle at the camp. Nevis from Glenstrae and Seamus from Yatarna. We had afternoon tea. I did more work with Andie Skye. I tried sing baby shark song on the scavenger hunt, but I like singing We Will Rock You better. We hung out with highland cattle then had dinner. We fed Andie dinner and get her water.

On Friday 17th of January, We fed Andie Skye breakfast and got her water. We hung out with the highland cattle and I sang We Will Rock You to Andie Skye. Erica and I took Andie Skye outside because we had to clean their beds. Erica and I gave Andie Skye a wash and a blow dry. We had morning tea then Erica and I led Andie Skye in the show ring. I learned how to put ear tag in the cows’ ears. After lunch Jess Parker did a talk on products for grooming and we also heard what makes good show cattle. After afternoon tea we walked cattle and fed and watered them. We did Junior Judging and had dinner. Then we hung out with Andie Skye, Nevis and Seamus.

On Saturday 18th of January, We fed Andie Skye breakfast and got her water. We had breakfast and hung out with Andie, Nevis and Seamus. Erica and I led Andie Skye into the show ring. I felt happy leading Andie Skye and got to use my new halter. We did Stud Beef Victoria Challenge then had lunch. After lunch, Erica and I led Andie Skye into the show ring. I felt better leading Andie Skye, and keeping her head up. The judge was very helpful and I got a ribbon. After showing Andie Skye I gave her some lucerne cubes as a treat and got her some water. We had dinner and I danced to We Will Rock You by Queen.

On Sunday 19th of January, we fed Andie Skye breakfast and got her water and helped Erica pack up.

I had a great time and handler’s camp and learn a lot about looking after cattle and how to lead them in the show ring. I enjoyed spending 3 days with the highland cattle Andie Skye, Nevis and Seamus. Thank you to Sue Boland, all the helpers and Stud Beef Victoria for putting on the camp. Thank you also to Erica Smith from Glenstrae for bringing Andie Skye and helping me learn to look after and show her. I’m looking forward to working with Andie Skye again and showing her at the Royal Canberra Show.
